HOW TO ZIP A FILE: !: Right click on your Player file (or MY file) 2: Select Send to: 3: Select the top option on the list, Compressed (zipped) folder Your file has just been zipped. I then email this file to myself. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

What is the purpose of zipping the file? Is that so you can email it? Does it need to be zipped if you are just putting it on your desktop or on a disk?

Hi TW! Good Question. I have always Zipped my Player files and my MY files. I email myself my player file with each star I get as another forum of back up. I rename the ZIPPED file to whatever player it is and the star #. I also save the Zipped player file in a backup folder on my desktop. When I ZIP my MY file, I do not have to rename the MY file itself. I rename the Zipped file, that way I can just open the Zipped MY file, inside is your MY file and you can simply drag it into your player file and not have to worry about renaming it back to be your MY file. This is if you have more than one MY file saved of course. I have TONS of them, and since in order to save them, they need to be given their own name to not override another one I've saved, I find it easier to Zip it and rename the Zip. Does that make sense or am I getting rummy? LOL

Maybe I'm the one that's had too much rum So if you have a zipped my file, for when you saved a bunch of layouts to work off line, for example, and you unzip it to the player file, don't you have to rename the my file that's already in there before you can access the unzipped zip file? Help - the rum is drowning me! ;D

Hi TW! As long as you didn't rename the MY file prior to zipping it, you do not have to rename it to put it back in your game. I rename the Zip This is what I named my Zip file from last night: my 07-08-08 11PM Now when I double click on that Zipped file, inside I'm going to find a MY file that I just drag into my Player file. Does that help?

This is somewhat related. It concerns UNZIPPING a file. The way I do it is this: I copy my zipped file to my player directory, because I still want to save it for my "other" player and for emailing to others. That way I don't "pollute" the original. Now, with the zipped file in the player directory, to UNZIP it, all you have to do, at least with VISTA, is RIGHT CLICK on the zipped file, chose "EXTRACT ALL". Another window will come up asking where to store it - I just click "EXTRACT". That window will close and another one will open up with the new "MY" file that has been extracted. I then drag the new "MY" file into the player window that is already open (where the zipped file was copied to). You can either chose to Replace it, or Copy it. I usually just chose "REPLACE:" because the old MY file is just that - old, already played, already pushed to server. But, that is just me. Others may have another way of doing this. I was asked about how to UNZIP a file and thought this the best place to broach that subject. :(Thanks! I'll be performing here all week. Tips are accepted, and especially, please, tip your waiter! or Waitress! or Waitrette! or ... Oh, you get the point!

8-)For a repeat performance ... since my computer seemed to be getting a bit sluggish - although it is set up to defrag every week, as well as "clean" itself weekly (through a new program available to all comcast cable internet users), I decided to "move" my saved off-line LOs to disk, to free up desktop space. Don't know if it will help or not, but it was getting a wee bit crowded on my desktoip with all the zipped "MY" files and icons! Plus I saved my player file to disk as well as my backgrounds file. That's something to consider... Now I can actually see my background again! ;D

Good Idea Marlene! I have all my zipped MY files in a Folder on my desktop, or there is NO way I'd be able to see my desktop! ;D And having your player file backed up to an external source is always a good idea. I backup to a jump drive every time I play. Thanks for the info! You are wonderful!

Hi Marlene! Good to see you! A Jump drive is also referred to as a Flash drive. It is about the size of some lighters, or length of a stick of gum. Ya just plug it in like you would your mouse or keyboard and store stuff on it. Very handy especially when I want to transfer info from one puter to the other puter.
