Several of us have been able to run the "FIX" prior to the "crash". Just wait until your playerS file is over 500KB, then run the fix.
The "FIX" must be run in version 1.3 of the game, not 1.2
INSTRUCTIONS:
Here is the link to the fix (replaced 09-30-08)
www.esnips.com/doc/b48f5e5b-0383-45bd-ba3d-7096704c3dd5/MTE_statfix
Once you have it, here are the instructions for using it:
Save it to: C:\Program Files\Mahjong Towers Eternity
It is a compressed zip file, so you also need to unzip it. You can do this by selecting the file and double-clicking on it to get a menu. There you should see "Extract All". Select that and follow the steps, but when it asks you to select a folder for the files, take out the "\MTE_statfix" in the field. So it should extract the files to
C:\Program Files\Mahjong Towers Eternity
and not:
C:\Program Files\Mahjong Towers Eternity\MTE_statfix
If you forget to remove the \MTE_statfix, don't worry. It will just put the file in a separate folder in your MTE folder. You can then move the file into your "Mahjong Towers Eternity" game folder.
To run the BFG fix, just double-click on the MTE_Statfix.exe program. It will make your "player" and "times" files smaller. Just be sure to run it from the Mahjong Towers Eternity folder.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Also, if you'd prefer to zip your player file and send it to me or someone else with version 1.3 of the game to run the fix for you, you can do that and then your player file/folder can be sent back to you for you to put back into your game.
It is the new fix that is post above. (2008) It has helped to eliminate some of the problems we used to run into with the older fix.
With the old fix, this is the "warning" I would give to players after running their fix for them.
The only problem that some players have run into is when trying to download layout from a couple of different players, the game will crash on you. It is not the same player name for any of us. If this happens, you simply will not be able to download that players layouts for a while. After a week or so, sometimes the problem goes away and you can then download that particular players layouts. If this happens to you, just avoid downloading that players layouts for a while and try from time to time to download their layouts when you are at a point that if your game crashes you will not lose any points.
In the mean time you can copy/paste their LOs into your game, you just can't pull up their LOs by using their player name.
I post it here just in case you run into this problem, you'll know how to work around it until the problem clears up.
